The proposal to bring permissionless transaction verification to Arbitrum passed temperature check voting today (14th), meaning the Ethereum Layer 2 network with the highest Total Value Locked (TVL) has taken another step towards implementing Stage 2 Rollup.
Following this vote, Arbitrum is expected to propose upgrading its smart contracts to adopt BOLD governance proposals. BOLD is a new dispute resolution protocol that allows anyone to become a validator on Arbitrum and enhances the security of the Arbitrum chain by reducing the risk of delay attacks. Currently, validators for withdrawals from Arbitrum to the Ethereum base layer are restricted to a whitelist.
The proposal from Arbitrum states:
BOLD has been live on the Arbitrum testnet since April this year. If approved by ArbitrumDAO, BOLD is expected to be implemented on Arbitrum One and Nova at some point in the summer of 2024.
Similarly, Optimism, a competitor using Optimistic rollups, recently released fault proofs on its Layer 2 blockchain OP Mainnet, advancing in decentralization to Stage 1 Rollup like Arbitrum.
