Ethereum Layer 2 network Arbitrum announced on Friday (27th) that after several months of development, Arbitrum Orbit is ready for deployment on the mainnet. Blockchain developers can use Arbitrum’s technology to build their own Layer 2 or Layer 3 networks.
Arbitrum states that Orbit chains can adopt any improvements made to the Arbitrum Nitro technology stack without permission or approval from DAO. This includes features such as permissionless verification, MEV capture, and further cost reduction.
According to Offchain Labs, the development team of Arbitrum, developers can create their own dedicated chains and connect to one of Arbitrum’s Layer 2 or Layer 2 chains on Arbitrum One, Arbitrum Nova, Arbitrum Goerli, and Arbitrum Sepolia. Projects, including Syndr, have previously revealed that they chose Arbitrum’s Orbit chain as the foundation and operated on Arbitrum’s Goerli testnet.
Arbitrum Orbit is a project launched earlier this year. Steven Goldfeder, CEO of Offchain Labs, stated that before this, these new Layer 3 could only operate on the Arbitrum testnet.
In addition, the Arbitrum Foundation announced on Wednesday that it has selected modular solution Celestia as the data availability layer for Orbit. Once the solution is live, applications built on Orbit can choose to publish their data to Celestia.
In recent months, there have been many customizable blockchain technology stacks in the market, and Orbit is one of them. OP Labs, the development team behind OP Mainnet (formerly Optimism), which is a competitor to Arbitrum, also has its own customizable environment version called OP Stack, which currently provides support for cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase’s Layer 2 network Base.
