Ethereum Name Service (ENS) announced on Monday (5th) that it has partnered with domain registrar GoDaddy to allow users to link their domain names to ENS. This collaboration aims to connect the traditional Domain Name System (DNS) protocol used by all traditional websites with blockchain-based domain names.

This collaboration bridges the gap between traditional DNS and blockchain technology, allowing users to do so without additional costs or requiring specialized technical knowledge. Linking DNS with ENS will enable over 20 million GoDaddy users to enjoy the benefits of ENS blockchain infrastructure, such as receiving cryptocurrency payments.

ENS is the most widely used naming protocol in the cryptocurrency field, allowing users to associate human-readable names (such as bob.eth) with long and complex Ethereum addresses, similar to the functionality of DNS in website URLs.

GoDaddy stated that the collaboration will enable users to connect their own domains (e.g., .com) to ENS-compatible cryptocurrency wallets. The company stated, “Receiving cryptocurrency payments has never been easier.”

Nick Johnson, the founder of ENS, stated that by pairing ENS domains with GoDaddy domains, “we will simplify the way users interact with internet domains and combine the familiarity of DNS with the potential of blockchain technology.”

This collaboration overcomes previous obstacles such as high gas fees by deploying new smart contracts, achieving a cost-free link from DNS to ENS domains, and improving the transition process.

ENS continues to strive for the integration of traditional internet technologies. Its ongoing work includes increasing support for .box domains, which have functionalities similar to standard internet domains.
