After a period of silence in the bear market, Web3 games are beginning to venture into the mainstream gaming space. Immutable, the development company behind Ethereum scaling solution Immutable X, has announced a collaboration with gaming giant Ubisoft to develop Web3 gaming experiences. Additionally, blockchain game Illuvium has announced that it will be available on the mainstream gaming distribution platform Epic Games Store on November 28th.
Immutable’s Collaboration with Ubisoft Strategic Innovation Lab
On Thursday, Immutable announced its collaboration with Ubisoft’s Strategic Innovation Lab to develop Web3 gaming experiences. The partnership aims to combine the expertise of both parties and integrate mainstream game development quality with Web3 functionalities.
Nicolas Pouard, Deputy General Manager and Blockchain Project Lead of Ubisoft’s Strategic Innovation Lab, highlighted the importance of Immutable’s existing blockchain infrastructure and its experience in integrating decentralized functionalities into games as driving factors for the collaboration. James Ferguson, Co-founder and CEO of Immutable, added that this collaboration represents a significant milestone in the Web3 gaming space.
Immutable’s gaming platform provides the infrastructure for multiple game studios to operate games on the Ethereum blockchain. The company has already introduced two scaling solutions based on zero-knowledge (ZK) proof technology, including the recently launched Immutable zkEVM testnet running on the Polygon chain, and Immutable X built using Rollup solution developed by StarkWare.
Illuvium’s Listing on Epic Games Store
According to Cointelegraph’s report, “Illuvium,” a chain-based game developed by Illuvium Labs, will be listed on Epic Games Store on November 28th. Illuvium is developed using the Unreal Engine 5 and integrated with Immutable X, allowing players to enjoy high transaction speeds and mint or trade in-game assets with zero gas fees.
The test version of the game released on Epic Games will showcase three different game types set in the Illuvium universe, including the open-world exploration game “Illuvium: Overworld,” the automated battle strategy game “Illuvium: Arena,” and the city-building game “Illuvium: Zero.”
Kieran Warwick, Co-founder of Illuvium, expressed in an interview with Cointelegraph that the token ILV saw a price increase of over 25% following the announcement of its listing on Epic Games Store. With the cryptocurrency market heating up, the price of ILV has doubled since late October, rising from around $38.5 to approximately $83.
