There have been reports indicating that Binance’s code, internal passwords, and other platform technical information were disclosed on GitHub. Although Binance later claimed that this information was outdated and the resulting risks could be “negligible,” the exchange still submitted a copyright removal request to GitHub, successfully requesting the deletion of these documents.
However, last night, cryptocurrency anonymous analyst otteroooo pointed out on X platform that Binance user personal information (such as names, nationalities, and phone numbers) was being sold on the dark web, and believed that the seller might be the hacker who leaked the Binance code on GitHub.
This news spread quickly on the platform, and Binance customer service quickly stepped in to put out the fire, stating that after evaluation by the Binance security team, there was no related risk of user personal information leakage in the system, and user accounts remained secure.
“Accounts are protected through various defense measures, including multi-factor authentication, biometrics, and authenticators. As always, we appreciate anyone sharing possible vulnerabilities and security issues with us, so that we can investigate and take necessary measures to protect our users.”
