According to a report by ABC News, due to technical issues with the American cybersecurity company Crowdstrike, airlines, airports, banks, and media companies worldwide suddenly experienced prolonged technical failures, which may have affected millions of people.
According to a warning issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on Friday afternoon (19th) Taiwan time, American Airlines, United Airlines, and Delta Air Lines have requested the FAA to ground all flights worldwide. The FAA is informing air traffic controllers to notify pilots that airlines are currently experiencing communication problems.
In a statement obtained by ABC News, American Airlines stated that, due to this technical issue, there were long queues for check-in procedures at McCarran International Airport in Nevada, USA, as shown in passenger videos shared by ABC News.
The extent of the impact of this issue is currently unclear. Melbourne Airport in Australia also stated that they are experiencing a “global technical issue” which is affecting their check-in procedures. Many countries have reported this global IT outage, including Berlin Airport in Germany, the London Stock Exchange, Google Cloud, Microsoft, and Gatwick Airport in the UK.
In a statement released today, Microsoft stated, “We are investigating an issue affecting access to various Microsoft 365 applications and services.”
Crowdstrike has admitted responsibility for this error and is working to fix it.
According to a report by Central News Agency, Taoyuan International Airport Corporation stated that due to the global Microsoft system abnormality, some airline systems are unable to operate on computers. Currently, affected airlines include the entire Asia Group, Tigerair Taiwan, Jetstar Group, Hong Kong Express, Jeju Air, and AirAsia, which have switched to manual check-in procedures.
