Million-dollar Transactions and 0.16 ETH Floor Price as Original Mickey Mouse Copyright Expires in NFT Projects

After the copyright protection period of the version of Disney’s animated character Mickey Mouse in “Steamboat Willie” expired, the cryptocurrency community began creating related NFT projects based on this original version of Mickey Mouse.

According to the Associated Press, the copyright protection period for the “Steamboat Willie” version of Mickey has officially expired on January 1, 2024, entering the public domain and available for public use. However, there are still significant limitations at the moment, as only the captain Mickey Mouse from “Steamboat Willie” enters the public domain. Disney stated that “the more modern version of Mickey will not be affected by the expiration of the ‘Steamboat Willie’ copyright.”

According to “nft now,” to commemorate the entry of this influential Disney character into the public domain, Alexander Taub, the founder of Truth Labs, a well-known NFT project development company, based on the image of this version of Mickey, minted the NFT project “Steamboat Willie Public Domain 2024.”

The total supply of the “Steamboat Willie Public Domain 2024” series is 2000, with an initial price of 0.001 ETH (approximately $2). According to OpenSea data, as of the deadline, the floor price of this NFT was 0.1549 ETH (approximately worth $375), and the trading volume reached 582 ETH (approximately $1.41 million) two days after its launch.
