Prosecutor Seeks 50-Year Imprisonment, SBF Lawyer Argues: This Is Not Justice!

In a memorandum submitted last Friday, prosecutors from the U.S. Department of Justice requested that FTX founder SBF be sentenced to 40 to 50 years of imprisonment. In response, SBF’s attorney submitted a letter to Judge Lewis Kaplan on Tuesday challenging the prosecutors’ sentencing proposal, arguing that it is “unjust”.

The letter argued that SBF has shown no signs of reoffending and has no criminal history. The attorney also claimed that FTX’s bankruptcy process would restore all the value lost by users in the collapse of the cryptocurrency exchange, a fact that the government has ignored and seeks to tarnish SBF with.

Sam Bankman-Fried’s sentencing hearing is expected to take place on March 28th. SBF’s legal counsel has previously requested the court for a “fair” sentence of 63 to 78 months. The attorney stated in the letter:
