Yuga Labs Sells Moonbirds IP to Orange Cap Games
The bored ape NFT development team Yuga Labs has sold the intellectual property of another well-known NFT series, Moonbirds, to the crypto gaming startup Orange Cap Games (OCG), just over a year after the NFT team acquired the collection.
OCG announced the acquisition of Moonbirds and related series, Mythics and Oddities, on the social media platform X over the weekend, but did not disclose details or the price of the transaction. As part of the deal, Moonbirds will continue to be launched on Yuga Labs’ metaverse platform, Otherside, and any new on-chain assets created by OCG will continue to be deployed on Ethereum or Yuga’s layer two network, ApeChain.
Following the acquisition news, the floor price of Moonbirds NFTs has continued to rise, increasing from approximately 0.3 ETH to 0.85 ETH (valued at about $2,121) by the time of this report. However, according to CoinGecko data, the NFT series is still down nearly 98% from its all-time high of 38.5 ETH reached in April 2022.
Yuga Labs acquired the Moonbirds development team PROOF’s assets, including the development team, IP, and portfolio of artwork in February 2024. After selling Moonbirds, Yuga Labs co-founder Greg Solano stated that the team will focus on its original series, including the Bored Ape Yacht Club and its various derivatives, such as the Mutant Ape Yacht Club and Otherside.
Prior to this, Yuga Labs had also sold the IP of two well-known NFT series, Meebits and CryptoPunks, earlier this year. Additionally, the team sold the IP of its two games, HV-MTL and Legends of the Mara, last year to refocus resources on its core series.
