Unexpected Half-Point Rate Hike by Central Bank! President Yang Jinlong Mentions Bitcoin Risks

The Central Bank held a board meeting on Thursday (21st), and made the decision to raise interest rates by half a percentage point. The rediscount rate was adjusted from an annual interest rate of 1.875% to 2%, returning to the level of December 2008, demonstrating determination to combat inflation. Taking into account the proposed increase in domestic electricity prices, the central bank raised its CPI annual growth rate forecast for this year to 2.16%.

In addition, Yang Jinyin, the president of the central bank, also mentioned Bitcoin at the press conference after the meeting, but he only briefly described the risks of Bitcoin, stating that “Bitcoin is like a roller coaster” and reminding investors to “fasten their seat belts”.
