FIFA Partners with Avalanche to Develop a Dedicated Blockchain for Digital Collectibles and Fan Interaction Applications

Blockchain Platform Avalanche Announces FIFA’s Adoption of Its Technology

On Thursday, blockchain platform Avalanche announced that the International Football Federation (FIFA) plans to adopt Avalanche’s technology to establish a dedicated Layer 1 blockchain, FIFA Blockchain, with the aim of promoting digital collectibles applications and a new generation of fan engagement models worldwide.

Avalanche stated in the announcement:

This is not FIFA’s first foray into the blockchain and cryptocurrency space. In addition to FIFA Collect, FIFA issued NFT collectibles on the Algorand blockchain in 2022. In April of this year, the organization revealed plans to transition to support blockchains that are compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), while continuing to advance its Web3 initiatives.

Avalanche is a high-speed, low-latency blockchain platform designed for builders who need to operate efficiently at scale. Its network architecture allows for the creation of autonomous, efficient, and fully interoperable public and private Layer 1 blockchains, with each chain able to achieve high throughput and near-instant transaction finality through the Avalanche consensus mechanism.

In December of last year, Avalanche announced the launch of its significant Avalanche9000 upgrade on the mainnet, which introduced many new features, including making it easier to deploy Layer 1 subnets within the network and reducing the operational costs of smart contracts.
