The ApeCoin community today (15th) announced through a vote that it has decided to develop its own ecosystem-specific chain, ApeChain, using Arbitrum technology and led by Horizen Labs.
According to proposal AIP-378, Horizen Labs, the Arbitrum Foundation, and the Arbitrum development team Offchain Labs plan to build ApeChain as an Arbitrum Orbit chain utilizing the AnyTrust technology, with the APE token serving as the native gas token. ApeChain is expected to launch its mainnet in the second quarter of 2024.
Horizen Labs stated on the X platform that the company is closely collaborating with Arbitrum and Offchain Labs to release the official roadmap for ApeChain, which will include the implementation plan for APE tokens as a full-chain token (OFT) supported by LayerZero Labs. Additionally, Horizen Labs has reached out to Web3 gaming projects interested in launching on ApeChain and will also engage in communication and coordination with YugaLabs and other contributors to the Ape ecosystem.
