Creative Upgrade Proposal for L2 Network Starknet Mainnet Alpha v0.13.0 Approved, Implementation Set for this Wednesday

The community of Ethereum Layer 2 network Starknet has voted to implement the Alpha v0.13.0 upgrade on the Starknet mainnet. This upgrade will introduce the functionality of using STRK tokens and Ether (ETH) to pay for transaction fees. Starknet core contributor Eli Ben-Sasson has stated to the media outlet “The Block” that the network plans to eventually transition to exclusively using STRK for transaction fees.

The mainnet upgrade is scheduled to take place on Wednesday at 7 PM Taiwan time. However, the functionality of paying with STRK tokens will be delayed until the token becomes transferable.

This upgrade is expected to reduce transaction costs and improve network efficiency. The team has stated that transaction fees are estimated to decrease by 25% to 50%.

The organization behind Starknet, the Starknet Foundation, plans to allocate 1.8 billion STRK tokens as user rewards and rebates, which may include community airdrops, later this year. The initial distribution phase is reported to potentially commence in the first half of 2024, and the foundation has previously announced the completion of the airdrop snapshot.
