The Information reported that artificial intelligence (AI) startup Anthropic is in talks for a new round of funding. According to sources, Menlo Ventures is leading this round, which is expected to raise $750 million.
Insiders revealed that the company’s valuation prior to this funding round was approximately $15 billion, and it is expected to increase to $18 billion after the latest fundraising. Although this figure is more than three times higher than the valuation at the beginning of this year, it is lower than the market rumors of $20-30 billion in October.
Anthropic was co-founded by former executives of OpenAI, Dario and Daniela Amodei, who are siblings. The company has been striving to acquire the necessary resources and support from influential backers to compete with OpenAI and become a leader in the field of AI technology.
Previously, the company received investments from Google and Amazon, with both tech giants agreeing to invest up to $2 billion and $4 billion, respectively, in the past few months. It is worth mentioning that FTX, before its collapse, also led Anthropic’s Series B funding in 2022, with an investment of approximately $580 million. Therefore, the increase in Anthropic’s valuation is a significant advantage for FTX creditors.
