On April 3, 2024, at 8 o’clock in the morning Taiwan time, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake occurred. Bitget, a globally renowned cryptocurrency exchange platform, announced immediately that it would provide assistance to affected users in Taiwan.
Walden Zhang, the Regional Director of Bitget Taiwan, stated that Bitget had recently issued an announcement regarding the earthquake. They have allocated an emergency budget of 500,000 US dollars to be used for the assistance program for users affected by this earthquake. All Bitget users in Taiwan who have suffered financial losses or personal injuries during this earthquake can apply for disaster relief funds on the Bitget official website by filling out a form. The maximum amount for relief funds is 100 US dollars or its equivalent.
After natural disasters occur, traditional banking services are often unable to provide additional funds to help meet medical supplies, food, and other basic needs. Cryptocurrency transfers are increasingly being used to provide economic assistance to disaster victims because they offer fast, low-cost, borderless, and transparent transactions.
