Binance’s lack of response and potential concerns
@NFTinfinityeth stated that a certain individual (Mr. I) from the UK claimed that they had approximately 1 million USDT worth of USDT and ETH stolen by hackers in March and May of 2023, with 2356 USDT being transferred to their Binance deposit address on June 23, 2023. As a result, @NFTinfinityeth became the defendant.
However, Binance only informed them of this matter via email in 2024, stating that they must allocate 2356 USDT to the plaintiff. By that time, a year had already passed since the lawsuit began, and the judgment had been rendered. @NFTinfinityeth had no opportunity to prove their innocence and could only accept the loss of 2356 USDT.
Thinking that the case had come to a close, @NFTinfinityeth’s account was frozen by Binance again the day before yesterday. Binance’s legal department provided the following reason:
In other words, in addition to the previous loss of 2356 USDT, @NFTinfinityeth may also have to forfeit the remaining 90,000 USDT in their Binance account.
@NFTinfinityeth stated that the legal team’s actions were quite experienced, seemingly adept at executing cross-border prosecutions against ordinary users of exchanges. On the other hand, although Binance did not “proactively” engage in any harmful behavior towards users during this process, @NFTinfinityeth believes that Binance’s “passive” attitude in the face of the judiciary has caused users to suffer unfair losses.
Currently, Binance has not yet responded to this matter, and @NFTinfinityeth has seemingly not explained whether the 2356 USDT that led to all these problems is indeed illicit funds. However, if the facts are indeed as described by @NFTinfinityeth, it inevitably raises concerns about the possibility of unscrupulous law firms using this method to first fabricate a theft of funds incident, distribute funds to unaware exchange user addresses, and then maliciously demand lawyer’s fees from the exchange users afterward.
